A little about me
First a little about me. I have given a much broader overview of my financial situation in the My Money Matters post, but let me give a little bit of background and explanation;
I am 23 and I will be starting my first full-time job in two weeks, on a starting salary of £19,500. In the past I have had numerous part-time and short-term jobs (some of which have even been well paid), but have never worked full-time for any length of time. I have also been studying full-time for the last three years, completing a degree in Business Management. I am currently between houses and am house hunting in one of the most expensive cities in the world - London.
Up till recently I have made some bad financial decisions. I have had significant levels of credit card debt, but have since managed to clear these (I will be sharing lots of debt reduction techniques that I have used over the coming months). I currently have £11,700 of outstanding debt, made up of an overdraft (currently at 0% interest) and a low interest student loan.
My aims for this blog
By now you are probably asking yourselves how I am qualified to offer advise on personal finance. Let me say this now … I am not. I am only speaking from personal experience and from research.
I have three main aims for this blog;
- I would like to share my own past experience of debt reduction and offer as much advice as I can about debt reduction strategies
- I have already done a significant amount of research and reading into the arena of personal finance and I would like to share as much as I have learn as possible.
- I would like to motivate myself and hopefully motivate others to achieve some of my key aims;
- The ability to follow a realistic budget
- The pursuit of frugal lifestyle options and an overall goal of money-saving
- The pursuit of short and long term financial goals.
Finally, you will find posts on a wide range of personal finance topics, including ;
- Day-to-day finance - including current accounts & credit cards
- Debt reduction / elimination
- Money Saving
- Savings and Investments
- Book and magazine reviews
- ‘How To …’ Articles
I also plan on including posts on other topics that of are interest to me and that I hope will be of interest to you, including personal development and productivity.
