Even though the weather forecast has been predicting one of the warmest winter’s on record, the weather here has been rapidly declining over the last few weeks. As a result, I have been spending most of my free time tucked up in my nice warm house. This has given me the opportunity to put together a list of some of my favourite personal finance posts from the last 12 months, so for in the run up to Christmas, I’ll be sharing my ‘Best of the Year’ alongside my round up of my favourite posts from that week. Hope you enjoy …

Best of the Year

Moolanomy: The First Million is the Hardest

One of the reasons this post resonated so much with me is that I find it hard to visulaize how the small amounts of money I am able to save at the moment are going to grow over time. This post provides a great illustration of how your money will grow over the years. Pinyo uses the example of $15,000 savings per year, something I am not able to achieve at the moment, but definately a good number to aim for.

My Open Wallet: I Thought I Couldn’t

Madame X uses a recent experience to teach a great lesson: always think before you say no. I am finding that as I become more and more focused on my personal finances, I am saying no to things because I think that I can’t afford them or that I should be spending the money on more important things or saving it. While this is often the case, the story from Madame X shows that if it something that you really want to do, it is always worth taking a step back and having a long hard think about it.

The Simple Dollar: Dealing with Professional Exhaustion in a Financially Sensible Way

Yet another excellent post from the Simple Dollar - does Trent ever write a bad one? This one struck a chord with me not because I am suffering from profession exhaustion, but because I am in a job and an industry where I can see myself being in that position in a few years. It is an great article not only for those looking to get out as soon as possible, but also for those who think they might be in that position in a few years.

Wow, thank you! The first post in the best of the year category. I am honored. :-)

Are you in England? I think Plonkee will be psyched to learn there’s another Brit in the PF blogosphere.

Thanks for the comments. I’m amazed to be getting comments already … chuffed to bits though.

I’m England based, Oxford to be more specific, though I’m moving to London soon.
